If you’re not yet aware, the president appeared on his favorite show Fox & Friends this Thursday morning via an interview that was conducted over the phone. That interview stretched out over thirty minutes and was so wild that it left the Trump-allied host Steve Doocy quipping about how “awake” Trump was when it was all over.
Among the highlights of the president’s Thursday Fox appearance is an admittance that he was in on the deal handled by his lawyer Michael Cohen to dish out $130,000 in hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels covering an alleged affair with the president.
He told the hosts, speaking of Cohen:
‘Like with this crazy Stormy Daniels deal, he represented me. From what I see, he did absolutely nothing wrong. There were no campaign funds going into this.’
Cohen is currently facing legal scrutiny for an array of activities including the hush money payment to Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford. Among the questions to be answered is whether or not the hush money constituted an illegal campaign contribution since it was meant to prop up the president’s bid for office. The whole thing remains legally treacherous whether or not campaign funds were used for the hush money.
At that, the president here essentially let it slip that he has more knowledge of the deal than he claimed to in the past. In the past, he claimed to have had no knowledge of the payment, but that comment and the ones he offered to Fox on Thursday can’t all be true.
