The president, judging off his actions while in office, doesn’t have the strongest idea of what it means to actually be the president of the United States. He’s the leader of a country that is defined on paper by freedom. This isn’t some faraway dictatorship — and yet the president still carries on with his attacks on the freedom of the press and law and order anyway.
After what’s become a long list of acts taken to undercut American law and order, Trump took to Twitter this Tuesday to strongly imply that he believes political opponents of his including longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin and former FBI Director James Comey should be jailed.
He wrote, referencing in his tweet a case where an individual served a year in jail for taking photos in a classified area of a nuclear submarine:
‘Crooked Hillary Clinton’s top aid, Huma Abedin, has been accused of disregarding basic security protocols. She put Classified Passwords into the hands of foreign agents. Remember sailors pictures on submarine? Jail! Deep State Justice Dept must finally act? Also on Comey & others’
There are numerous problems with his tweet, including the fact that he is literally trying to use the Justice Department like an attack dog against his political opponents. That’s not how things work in America — what alternate reality is he living in where the opposite is true?
In Abedin’s case, the State Department recently released the emails of hers that had been found on her former partner’s computer and had, upon their discovery, prompted the FBI to consider whether or not the Clinton email investigation should be ended differently than it had been. The emails have already been examined by government officials — obviously since it’s the government that released them. Authorities came to the conclusion, as we all know, that Clinton and her aides had been careless in their handling of classified information but that no charges were warranted.
In Comey’s case, Trump has, without merit, claimed that he leaked classified information to the press. In fact, all Comey did was share notes of his conversations with the president with the press.
