One member of the Trump family who, although they haven’t been responsible for any real major national policy developments since assuming their position, has occasionally stuck up for the right side of an issue is Ivanka Trump. She shouldn’t attract accolades for being a rational, decent human being, and yet here we are, since rationality feels so rare on the part of the Trumps.
The Daily Caller picked up a story recently of a video surfacing of former President Obama’s daughter Malia, who is presently at Harvard, blowing smoke rings. Malia Obama is a private citizen who was drawn into the public’s eye as a young person, but that didn’t stop The Daily Caller from making sure to pick up the story anyway.
Ivanka Trump, of all people, is among those who came to Malia’s defense. Writing on Twitter this Friday, she said:
‘Malia Obama should be allowed the same privacy as her school aged peers. She is a young adult and private citizen, and should be OFF limits.’
Ivanka is, of course, very right, but her comments on the situation raise a pressing question — where is her father on this issue? He didn’t hesitate to criticize the left over supposedly going after his young son, Barron, and although the discrepancy between his response to that issue and this one is explainable, it’s still there.
