Last week, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer announced his sudden resignation following the appointment of Anthony Scaramucci to the position of White House communications director.
Spicer, who has borne the brunt of public pressure against the Trump Administration for six months, reportedly didn’t feel as though Scaramucci would be nearly competent enough to complete his job, so he resigned in protest.
Well, Trump might have gotten more than he bargained for in bringing Scaramucci on and watching Spicer go. Alternatively, Trump might not at all care about Scaramucci’s past, because his point has never been ideological purity or advancing the cause of the common man. Trump’s point, rather, has always been, most crudely, about bringing up his poll numbers.
In short, Scaramucci has been deleting some old tweets off his account since being announced as Trump’s new Comms Director, and at least one of them is incredibly telling.
Presented below via screenshot from Axios, Scaramucci wrote on Twitter back in 2012 of Hillary Clinton:
‘I hope she runs [for president], she is incredibly competent.’
Scaramucci’s only response to the deleted tweets was to say that it’s a “ridiculous Washington narrative” to say that him deleting the tweets shows that he is willing to give up what he believes in to get close to power. He eventually added that he “hates” Washington’s so-called “political purity test” on policy.
