President Trump proved yet again on Friday morning that he’s every defense attorney’s worst nightmare.
He posted a series of angry tweets, as he likes to do, and one of these tweets serves as apparent confirmation that he himself is personally under investigation for obstruction of justice.
Trump wrote, “I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! Witch Hunt.”
This tweet flies in the face of his team’s go-to non-committal response to questions about the ongoing Russian election meddling scandal. It also reveals that the President’s comments to (fired) FBI Director James Comey to the effect of that he hoped the investigation into Michael Flynn would be dropped really were something substantive after all, no matter how many times the Trump team would like to claim otherwise.
As Trump mentions in his tweet, his firing of FBI Director James Comey could be an obstruction of justice, depending on his exact intent, since Comey was in charge of the Russia investigation before his firing.
Comey himself indicated in recent testimony before the Senate Intel Committee that the office of Special Counsel for the Russia investigation Robert Mueller was looking into charges of obstruction of justice.
