Donald Trump Freaks Out, Posts Belligerent Post-Comey Briefing Statement On Twitter

On Thursday, fired FBI Director James Comey appeared before the Senate Intelligence Committee to testify about his interactions with the President in the context of the ongoing inquiry into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

Comey told Congress that he got what he took as a directive from Trump to end the investigation into ousted National Security Adviser Michael Flynn back in February, but he did not comply with this directive. Quite simply, Trump’s directive constitutes an obstruction of justice, with Flynn having faced scrutiny for concealing his ties to Russia.

In other words, the ploy that President Trump has been just a useful idiot the whole time has been seriously undercut by the dumb actions of the President himself. For what it’s worth, Comey did confirm to Congress on Thursday that Trump is not personally under investigation for Russia collusion — it’s just his associates.

President Trump took to Twitter on Friday to respond to the Comey hearing, after having decided to not live tweet during the event itself after all.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, Trump’s patently deluded take on the hearing is that everything is all now fine and dandy. Hint: it’s not.

Trump wrote, “Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication…and WOW, Comey is a leaker!”

Trump’s tweet references the fact that Comey revealed on Thursday that he himself is the one behind the recent leak of completely unclassified personal memos of his conversations with the president to the press.

Besides that, no, there was no “total and complete vindication” to be found in the Comey hearing. Comey confirmed much of what we already knew; namely, that the President had committed an act easily construable as an obstruction of justice and that his associates have maintained a ridiculous web of connections to Russian officials during his rise to power.
