Longtime favorite left wing tv host Lawrence O’Donnell had a few choice words for President Trump on Twitter this week.
Writing after the release of fired FBI Director James Comey’s prepared opening statements ahead of his Thursday appearance before the Senate Intelligence Committee, O’Donnell quipped that there is a definite end result of what Comey’s remarks reveal.
O’Donnell wrote, “If Congress applies the Nixon standard, Trump will be impeached.”
The MSNBC host was adding his own commentary to a statement by Senior Legal Analyst for CNN Jeffrey Toobin, who said that Comey’s remarks revealed that Trump has committed obstruction of justice.
Toobin wrote on Twitter quite simply: “Comey’s statement establishes obstruction of justice by Trump. Period.”
Comey’s Wednesday released statements, along with his Thursday testimony to Congress, concerns the apparent February efforts of President Trump to get Comey to drop the investigation into the long ousted National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.
Comey indicated at the Thursday Senate hearing at which he spoke that the recently appointed Special Counsel for the Russia investigation would take care of the question of whether or not Trump committed a punishable offense in “obstructing justice.”
President Richard Nixon’s decision to fire the guy in charge of the investigation into his team during the Watergate scandal ultimately led to his downfall.
