France, which is, according to BBC, still under a state of emergency after the 2015 Paris terror attacks that left 150 people dead, has just suffered another attempted terror incident.
On Tuesday, a not yet identified assailant attacked police outside the Notre Dame Cathedral with a hammer, injuring one officer. The attacker was shot and injured — and successfully neutralized — by police.
Although the incident might come across as just an instance of petty crime, officials say that they are treating it as a terrorist incident. French police have been targeted by terrorists in the past, and Europe is still pulling itself out from the tumult associated with the two recent terror attacks in the United Kingdom, which left a combined 29 people dead.
