Early this Monday morning, President Trump took to Twitter to again attack Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, on account of Khan’s refusal to go along with the Trump Administration’s preferred hate and fear fueled response to terrorism.
Trump’s attack on Khan literally employs a blatant falsehood. Trump has maintained for what’s now days that Khan attempted to dismiss the dangers of terrorism with a call for Londoners to “not be alarmed” following last week’s terror attack at the London Bridge.
That implication is not, however, correct. Khan’s admonishment for Londoners to “not be alarmed” came in the context of statements about an increased police presence planned for London in the days following the attack.
Trump, however, at least somewhat on account of a longstanding rift between the two on account of Khan’s vocal opposition to the Trump Administration’s repeatedly proposed Muslim targeting travel bans, continues to maintain that Khan said the opposite, and that the mayor intended to discount the dangers of terrorism.
Trump’s first tweet on the matter, from Sunday, reads: ‘At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is “no reason to be alarmed!”‘
After the unsurprising blowback to that tweet, Trump posted the following on Monday: “Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his “no reason to be alarmed” statement. MSM is working hard to sell it!”
The mainstream media isn’t “trying to sell” anything; Khan was really talking about the increased police presence in London following the London Bridge attack when he admonished Londoners to “not be alarmed.”
Unsurprisingly, the blowback against Trump didn’t end. Check out some of the best replies to his second belligerent Twitter attack on mayor Khan below.
