President Trump has fired FBI Director James Comey.
The notably short White House statement on the matter, which you can read below, says that Comey’s firing was the recommendation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Comey was leading a criminal investigation into Donald Trump and his campaign’s ties to Russia. This sort of thing — President Trump just up and firing people who threaten to reveal potentially damaging information about him and/or his team — has long been feared.
It’s in the same manner that he fired Acting Attorney General Sally Yates because she wouldn’t go along with his eventually proven illegal Muslim targeting travel ban.
A report from USA Today Reporter Brad Heath suggests that Comey was fired because the Trump administration didn’t like his decision to push for no charges to be filed against Hillary Clinton for her usage of a private email server while Secretary of State.
