Federal employees are allegedly being forced to watch Fox News.
No, this isn’t a joke. It’s not fake news. In the bizarre world that we have now found ourselves in upon Trump’s ascent to power, federal employees are actually, literally being forced to watch Fox News.
At least, that’s the story according to a leaked email. (That’s right — the Trump admin, which rose to power on the wave of leaked emails from their opponents, now just had some leaked emails bite them where it hurts.)
The email was, apparently, sent regarding inquiries from employees at the Silver Spring, Maryland, FDA office as to why their TVs were all turned to Fox.
The email sent by an apparent “customer service representative” to these employees reads: “A decision from the current administration administrative officials has requested that all monitors, under our control, on the White Oak Campus, display FOX news.”
A screenshot of the email is featured below, via journalist Paul Thacker.
Bizarrely, the FDA’s response to the leaked email confirms its validity while denying that there was any “directive or memorandum” from the Trump admin as to what was to be played on the FDA’s TVs.
You can check out the FDA’s response to the reports about their TVs below.
If this is true, then it is an egregious, backhanded assault on free speech from an administration that has already carried out such assaults on a number of occasions.
Buzzfeed’s Julia Reinstein posted an image of Fox News playing on an FDA TV on the same day — Wednesday — that the email sparking all of this controversy went out to FDA employees.
The Silver Spring, Maryland FDA office is the national headquarters for the agency.
