Agence France-Presse is reporting that Germany’s Foreign Minister has made some pretty disparaging comments regarding Ivanka Trump’s role in her father’s White House.
Quite simply, the issue the FM Sigmar Gabriel takes with Ivanka’s prominence in the goings-on of her father’s White House is that there’s no reason for her to have the prominence that she does other than her last name.
In an interview that was apparently published Saturday in the German regional media group Funke, Gabriel said:
‘It always bothers me when members of a family, who have never been elected, show up suddenly as official state representatives and are treated almost as if they were members of a royal family.’
Gabriel definitely has a point, seeing as, again, Ivanka has basically no qualifications for the role that she presently works in. Sure, she’s a wealthy heiress who likes to give lip service to social issues, but seriously, what wealthy heiress doesn’t like to do that?
Ivanka recently took a trip to Berlin to participate in a summit about women’s issues.
Of this trip, Gabriel commented:
‘For me there are things that remain strange, like for example the visit of his daughter to Germany which was treated almost like a world event, while the mix of politics with family and business reminds us instead of nepotism and would be unimaginable here.’
