‘I can reassure all, that pretty soon, there will be a little mound where today, the White House stands in Washington, and on this mound, goats will be grazing peacefully.’
Guess who said that?
Imre Kerényi said that. Kerényi is a longtime personal adviser to the fiercely pro-Russia current Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán. The quote is from a book that was translated by András Göllner of the ‘Hungarian Free Press.’ His life outside of politics has centered, apparently, in film. His IMDb biography notes three films for which he is known.
Guess what else Kerényi is known for?
Have you ever heard of Sebastian Gorka? Gorka is President Donald Trump’s top counterrorism adviser. Hailing from Hungary, he is alleged to have falsified information on his naturalization forms about his connections to a noted far right Hungarian militia group.
As The Forward notes of the group which has claimed Gorka as a member:
‘The elite order, known as the Vitézi Rend, was established as a loyalist group by Admiral Miklos Horthy, who ruled Hungary as a staunch nationalist from 1920 to October 1944. A self-confessed anti-Semite, Horthy imposed restrictive Jewish laws prior to World War II and collaborated with Hitler during the conflict. His cooperation with the Nazi regime included the deportation of hundreds of thousands of Jews into Nazi hands.’
There is ample evidence for Gorka’s membership in this group.
In addition, although concrete documentation is sketchy, Göllner — who is Hungarian himself, and apparently a former Orbán staffer — says that Kerényi is an “old associate” of Gorka’s. The two definitely have a history of associating themselves with the same political causes.
And these are the kind of people who President Trump has surrounded himself with.
