U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is not a well liked person. The latest update to the chart averaging polls of his approval rating at The Huffington Post has an estimated 33.3% of people on Ryan’s side.
That intense, national dislike was put on full display in the comments section of a tweet that Paul Ryan posted on Friday. He — or someone in his office — tried to post something meaningful in honor of those who serve in the American Armed Forces, but it quickly backfired.
Ryan’s tweet reads: “My favorite part about visiting our allies around the world is getting to meet with our men and women in uniform.” Accompanying that caption is a collection of photos of Ryan with servicemen and women from his recent trip to Europe.
The Washington Examiner reports that Ryan and the Congresspeople who went with him to Europe planned to make stops in the United Kington, Norway, Poland and Estonia “to review and discuss evolving security threats facing Europe as well as opportunities for greater economic cooperation.”
Ryan’s tweet attempting to honor the members of the U.S. Armed Forces that he’d met in Europe quickly backfired, however, with Twitter commenters pointing out Ryan’s blatant hypocrisy and overall arrogance.
